US House votes to impeach President Trump for second time
President Donald Trump has been impeached for a second time in an unprecedented House vote Wednesday, a week after he encouraged a mob of loyalists to “fight like hell” against election results just before they stormed the U.S. Capitol in a deadly siege.
“On January 6, 2021 a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol to obstruct the process of our democracy and stop the counting of presidential electoral votes. This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic,” Cheney said in a statement addressing her decision to back impeachment.
10 Republicans and 222 Democrats have voted to impeach Donald Trump, making him the first US president to be impeached twice.
